REVOLUTION IN EV ?

OLA ELECTRIC BIKE

The Ola S1 and S1 Pro electric scooters have been launched in India. The base S1 costs Rs 99,999 whereas the S1 Pro retails at Rs 1,29,999 (both ex-showroom, Bengaluru). Ola Electric has managed to make extremely feature-rich and performance-packed electric scooters at a very competitive price. The e-scooter is open for purchase from September 8, and deliveries will commence from October, in over 1,000 cities pan-India. You can learn more about the electric scooter in our launch report here. And if you’re planning on buying one, here’s a lowdown of the entire process in a few basic steps.

Ola S1 Prices:

The Ola S1 is pegged at Rs 99,999 whereas the more premium Ola S1 Pro retails at Rs 1,29,999. Both prices are ex-showroom Bengaluru, including the new FAME II subsidy. The final price may be even lower depending on the state-level subsidies. The S1 Pro offers a slightly higher top speed, much better range, and a few extra geeky features, not to mention wider colour options. Check out more details about the variants in our analysis here.

Ola S1 Features:

The Ola S1 as well as the Ola S1 Pro are equipped with an all-LED lighting system, a massive 36-litre underseat storage, TFT instrument cluster with smartphone, Bluetooth, Wifi and GPS connectivity. Other noteworthy standard features include side-stand-down and anti-theft alert, geo-fencing, reverse mode, Get Home Mode, Take Me Home Lights, and a Limp Home Mode.

The S1 Pro variant also comes with a hill-hold function, voice assistant, and cruise control. The e-scooter also comes with multiple profiles, and a sound system to imitate a petrol-powered scooter, similar to the feature in the Revolt RV 400.

Ola S1 Powertrain:

The Ola S1 and the S1 Pro share the same permanent magnet motor producing a peak power of 8.5kW and a peak torque of 58Nm (at the shaft). The motor in the S1 Pro gets a higher top speed of 115kmph whereas it’s restricted to 90kmph in the S1. It is linked to a 2.98kWh or a 3.97kWh lithium-ion battery pack with a claimed range of 121km and 181km respectively. It can be charged using a home charger in 4 hours, 48 minutes (6.5 hours for the S1 Pro). Ola’s fast-charger is capable of offering a 75km range for 18 minutes of charging.

Ola S1 Suspension And Brakes:

The Ola S1 is built on a tubular frame with the curved battery pack mounted on the floorboard. It is suspended on a single-sided fork up front, and a monoshock with a single-sided swingarm at the rear. The electric scooter comes to a halt using a 220mm front and a 180mm rear disc with standard CBS. At 165mm, the ground clearance is generous enough for Indian roads. It rolls on large 12-inch alloy wheels wrapped with 110-section rubber at both ends. The e-scooter is slightly heavy as the base variant tips the scales at 121kg kerb and the S1 Pro at 125kg kerb.
